Is there a way that i can get excel recognise every
time a name comes up and make it as a number? i'm
making a spreadsheet on staff and number of sales made. now i have 1 sheet which records all the sales made and it records the name of the member of staff which made the sale, on a seperate sheet i want excel to notive every
time a staffs name comes up and record the number of sales they have
made, so if your name comes up 5 times in sheet 1 then in sheet 2 i want excel to put 5 in the column "number of sales made". how do i
do this?

The function you want is =countif
basically it works by counting the number of times a given value shows up in a range. you can find more info in the microsoft help section, but this is the one.
